A total of 10 WVSU student athletes are on this spring's WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

   Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which
the sport was concluded.

     The WVSU women's tennis team fell 5-0 to the University of Charleston Friday in a first round NCAA regional match at Cal-Pa.

      The Jackets finished the season ranked fifth in the NCAA Atlantic region.

        For the third straight year the Yellow Jacket women's tennis team has been selected to participate in the NCAA DII tournament.

        WVSU will play a first round regional match at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7th, at California University of Pa.

         The Jackets finished #5 in the Atlantic Region rankings, their highest final ranking ever.

        With the help of a pair of wins last week to fifth in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings this week.

         The top 10 teams in the region qualify for the NCAA tournament beginning May 6th.

      The WVSU tennis teams split matches at Catawba College in North Carolina Saturday.

      The men's squad dropped a 9-0 decision while the women won 7-2.

       The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team, ranked sixth in the NCAA Atlantic Region, fell to third ranked Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon.

       The second doubels team of Brittany Craig and Eben Russell picked up the Jackets' lone point while Teddi Russell and Erika Acosta each fell in three tough sets.

     In a showdown between regionally ranked teams #6 WVSU prevailed 5-4 at #10 Indiana University-Pa. Wednesday.

     Emily Bowlin, Eben Russell, and Meghan Stewart each scored singles wins while Russell teamed with Brittany Craig to win a doubles point and Bowlin and Stewart paired for another.

         The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team is ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Atlantic Region rankings released Thursday.

         The top 10 teams in the rankings advance to the NCAA tournament in May.

        Senior Emily Bowlin won in singles and teamed with junior Meghan Stewart to win a hard fought doubles match but those were the only points the Yellow Jackets' womens tennis team could score Saturday at Division I Winston-Salem.

       The men's squad picked up a victory at second doubles from the team of freshman Mason Walling and sophomore Brian Wooten but that was all they could manage aganst the Winston-Salem men.

       Later in the day at Winston-Salem the men dropped a 7-0 decision to Division I Richmond.

      The WVSU women's tennis team lost by a score of 8-1 to visiting Cal-Pa Wednesday.

       The Yellow Jackets' lone win against the Vulcans, who are ranked eighth nationally, came at first singles.

        WVSU sophomore Brittany Craig won the last five games of her match to defeat #28 ranked Anatassiya Zherdeva 7-6 (4), 6-4.

        The Jacket men's and women's teams play at Winston-Salem University Saturday.

        The WVSU women's tennis team defeated Barton 5-1 Saturday morning in Wilson, North Carolina.

          The doubles teams of Teddi Russell/Erika Acosta and Brittany Craig/Eben Russell picked up points as did Craig, Acosta, and Eben Russell in singles. 

           The WVSU men;s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 7-2 decision to visiting Virginia State Sunday in a match played indoors at Teays Valley Tennis Center.

           Nick Anderson and Mason Walling won in singles.

          The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team defeated the Trojans 9-0.

    The WVSU men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring seasons Sunday.

    The Yellow Jacket men dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Bluefield State while the women fell 6-1 to visiting West Virginia University.

     Jason Thaxton in singles and Thaxton and Brian Wooten picked up wins for the men while Eben Russell won in singles for the women.

      The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team defeated Fairmont State 5-0 Friday morning in a quarterfinal match in the WVIAC tournament.

Friday evening the third-seeded Jackets dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to second-seeded WV Wesleyan in a semifinal match.

Sophomore Brittany Craig and senior Teddi Russell were each voted to the All-WVIAC Team and received their awards in between matches.

WVSU completed the fall season with a 13-4 overall record and 7-2 conference mark.

       The WVSU women's tennis team completed its WVIAC regular season with a 9-0 win over visiting Bluefield State Monday.

       The Jackets improved to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the victory on Senior Day.

       The WVSU women's tennis team downed visiting Shippensburg 9-0 Saturday in a match played inside at Teays Valley Tennis Center due to weather conditions.

       The win gives the Yellow Jackets an 11-3 overall record to go with a 6-2 conference mark.

    The WVSU women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Charleston on the road Tuesday afternoon.

     The loss left the Jackets at 10-3 overall and 6-2 in WVIAC play.

     A win would have given the team its third conference title in four years. Instead the Yellow Jackets settle for third and will most likely play Fairmont in the opening round of the WVIAC tournament on Friday, October 23rd in Charleston.

      First the squad will celebrate Senior Day Saturday at noon when they face visiting Shippensburg.

      WVSU's tennis teams split a pair of matches with visiting Johnson C. Smith Saturday afternoon in Institute.

      The Yellow Jacket men fell 9-0 to the Golden Bulls while the WVSU women returned the favor with a 9-0 win.

      The men's squad fell to 0-3 in completing their fall schedule.

      The win moved the women's record to 10-2 overall.

    The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team downed visiting West Liberty 7-2 Friday evening in a match played indoors at Teays Valley Tennis Center.

     The win moves the Jackets record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the WVIAC.

     Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at home in a match being played on campus outdoors as they face Johnson C. Smith.

        The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play with an 8-1 win over visiting Shepherd Friday night in a match played indoors at the Charleston YMCA due to rain.

       The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team (6-2) defeated the University of Findlay 8-1 and Indiana Tech 9-0 Saturday in Findlay, Ohio.

      The WVSU men fell 9-0 to Indiana Tech in a match also played in Findlay.

     The WVSU women's tennis team split a pair of matches on the road Sunday.

      The Jackets lost a heartbreaker at West Virginia Wesleyan by a 6-3 score as four matches went into third sets and first doubles dropped an 8-6 decision.

      Brittany Craig and Eben Russell picked up singles victories at first and fifth positions and teamed to win at second doubles.

      The squad rebounded shortly afterwards for a 9-0 win at Davis & Elkins to move to 3-1 in WVIAC play and 3-2 overall.

     The WVSU women's tennis squad improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a 9-0 win at Fairmont State Saturday.

       The WVSU women's tennis team took a 9-0 decision over Seton Hill in a match played at Fairmont State Friday evening.

       The Jackets face FAirmont at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

        In a non-conference meeting between the teams expected to battle it out for the WVIAC title this season Charleston defeated the Yellow Jackets 6-3 Wednesday afternoon in Institute.

        Brittany Craig and Emily Bowlin captured singles wins for WVSU while Craig teamed with Eben Russell to pick up a doubles point.

        The Yellow Jacket doubles team of Emily Bowlin and Meghan Stewart won the championship match of the "C" Flight doubles in the Brevard College Mountain Invitational Sunday morning just outside of Asheville, NC.

        Bowlin and Stewart won the title contest 9-7.

     Senior Emily Bowlin and junior Meghan Stewart rallied from a 7-4 deficit to take a 9-8 win over a pair from host Brevard Saturday afternoon to advance to Sunday's "C" Flight doubles final.

     The field includes DI squads from Coastal Carolina, UNC-Asheville, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, and Gardner-Webb as well as Wingate and Brevard out of DII.

      The WVSU women host Charleston at 3 p.m. Wednesday to finish a contest suspend last week due to rain.

    The doubles team of sophomore Brittany Craig and junior Eben Russell rolled to the championship match of the No. 2 doubles division Saturday in the Depauw Invitational by defeating NCAA DI opponent IUPUI in the semis.

     The pair then dropped a tough three-setter to a host Depauw team by a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

      Senior Teddi Russell took third place in the No. 1 singles flight, Craig third at No. 2, Emily Bowlin 5th and No. 3, and Eben Russell third at No. 5.

       Bowlin and Meghan Stewart teamed for third place at No. 3 doubles.

       There were eight teams in the two-day event.

West Virginia State University defeated West Virginia Wesleyan College 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Regional being hosted by California of PA and played at Washington, PA.

The Yellow Jackets advance to play #1 seeded California of PA on Thursday.

    For the second year in a row and only second time in the history of the program the WVSU women's tennis team has been selected to compete in the NCAA championship tournament.

     The Yellow Jackets will travel to Cal-Pa for a match Wednesday with conference rival West Virginia Wesleyan.

            The WVSU women's tennis team wound up its Spring Break trip with a 3-2 record by defeating Sioux CIty 7-2 Friday, March 27 in Hilton Head.

             The Jackets previously downed DI Savannah State in a rare doubleheader and dropped decisions to #24 Erskine and Oberlin.

      The WVSU women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to #24 Erskine Wednesday but rebounded for a 9-0 win at Savannah State Thursday.

        The first doubles team of Teddi Russell and Erika Acosta picke dup the Jackets' lon epoint against Erskine.

         The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team defeated the University of Southern Indiana 7-2 Sunday in a match played at Morehead State University.

          Brittany Craig, Teddi Russell, Meghan Stewart, and Eben Russell each picked up a pair of victories with Emily Bowlin winning at fourth singkes.

         WVSU is cuurently ranked No. 6 in the NCAA DII Atlantic Region. The top eight teams qualify for the NCAA tournament. The Jackets improve to 12-6 overall.      

        The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision indoors at DI Morehead State Friday afternoon.

          #6 Meghan Stewart won 6-4, 6-4 in singles to claim WVSU's only point.

          Doubles was not played due to match outcome being decided.

The West Virginia Conference is represented well in the latest women's regional rankings conducted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Four WVC teams are in the Atlantic Region poll, including the University of Charleston at No. 3 and West Virginia State at No. 4.

WVC champion UC also is ranked 38th in the national NCAA Division II rankings.

Other state conference teams ranked in the region are West Virginia Wesleyan, at No. 7, and Shepherd at No. 9.
