Jackets Beat Fairmont, Fall to Wesleyan
The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team defeated Fairmont State 5-0 Friday morning in a quarterfinal match in the WVIAC tournament.
Friday evening the third-seeded Jackets dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to second-seeded WV Wesleyan in a semifinal match.
Sophomore Brittany Craig and senior Teddi Russell were each voted to the All-WVIAC Team and received their awards in between matches.
WVSU completed the fall season with a 13-4 overall record and 7-2 conference mark.

Tennis Rolls Over Bluefield on Senior Day
The WVSU women's tennis team completed its WVIAC regular season with a 9-0 win over visiting Bluefield State Monday.
The Jackets improved to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in conference play with the victory on Senior Day.

Women's Tennis Defeats Shippensburg
The WVSU women's tennis team downed visiting Shippensburg 9-0 Saturday in a match played inside at Teays Valley Tennis Center due to weather conditions.
The win gives the Yellow Jackets an 11-3 overall record to go with a 6-2 conference mark.

Women's Tennis Falls at Charleston
The WVSU women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Charleston on the road Tuesday afternoon.
The loss left the Jackets at 10-3 overall and 6-2 in WVIAC play.
A win would have given the team its third conference title in four years. Instead the Yellow Jackets settle for third and will most likely play Fairmont in the opening round of the WVIAC tournament on Friday, October 23rd in Charleston.
First the squad will celebrate Senior Day Saturday at noon when they face visiting Shippensburg.

Tennis Splits with JC Smith
WVSU's tennis teams split a pair of matches with visiting Johnson C. Smith Saturday afternoon in Institute.
The Yellow Jacket men fell 9-0 to the Golden Bulls while the WVSU women returned the favor with a 9-0 win.
The men's squad fell to 0-3 in completing their fall schedule.
The win moved the women's record to 10-2 overall.

Jackets Defeat West Liberty in Women's Tennis
The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team downed visiting West Liberty 7-2 Friday evening in a match played indoors at Teays Valley Tennis Center.
The win moves the Jackets record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the WVIAC.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at home in a match being played on campus outdoors as they face Johnson C. Smith.

The WVSU women's tennis team split a pair of matches on the road Sunday.
The Jackets lost a heartbreaker at West Virginia Wesleyan by a 6-3 score as four matches went into third sets and first doubles dropped an 8-6 decision.
Brittany Craig and Eben Russell picked up singles victories at first and fifth positions and teamed to win at second doubles.
The squad rebounded shortly afterwards for a 9-0 win at Davis & Elkins to move to 3-1 in WVIAC play and 3-2 overall.

Bowlin and Stewart Win Tennis Title
The Yellow Jacket doubles team of Emily Bowlin and Meghan Stewart won the championship match of the "C" Flight doubles in the Brevard College Mountain Invitational Sunday morning just outside of Asheville, NC.
Bowlin and Stewart won the title contest 9-7.

Women's Tennis Duo reaches Final in NC
Senior Emily Bowlin and junior Meghan Stewart rallied from a 7-4 deficit to take a 9-8 win over a pair from host Brevard Saturday afternoon to advance to Sunday's "C" Flight doubles final.
The field includes DI squads from Coastal Carolina, UNC-Asheville, Georgia Southern, Western Carolina, and Gardner-Webb as well as Wingate and Brevard out of DII.
The WVSU women host Charleston at 3 p.m. Wednesday to finish a contest suspend last week due to rain.

Tennis Duo Makes Finals
The doubles team of sophomore Brittany Craig and junior Eben Russell rolled to the championship match of the No. 2 doubles division Saturday in the Depauw Invitational by defeating NCAA DI opponent IUPUI in the semis.
The pair then dropped a tough three-setter to a host Depauw team by a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Teddi Russell took third place in the No. 1 singles flight, Craig third at No. 2, Emily Bowlin 5th and No. 3, and Eben Russell third at No. 5.
Bowlin and Meghan Stewart teamed for third place at No. 3 doubles.
There were eight teams in the two-day event.

Women's Tennis Picked to Win Conference
The WV State women's tennis team edged out rival Charleston as the coach's preseason pick to win the WVIAC in recent voting.
The Yellow Jackets return their top six players from last year's conference runner-up squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

WVSU Women's Tennis Honored
The West Virginia State University women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an All-Academic Team for the 2008-09 school year it was announced Thursday.
Teams with a 3.2 overall grade point average qualify for the award and the Yellow Jackets finished with a 3.55 average. The ITA is the governing body for college tennis.
Additionally four players from the squad which qualified for the NCAA tournament for a second straight season were selected as individual All-Academic selections. Those were Emily Bowlin and Sarah Bowlin from Belle, Sarah Bowen from Dunbar, and Eben Russell from Cincinnati.
This marks the third straight year at least four members of the WVSU women's tennis team have been selected.
The Yellow Jacket men's tennis team had one played selected, Sissonville native Brian Wooten.

West Virginia State University defeated West Virginia Wesleyan College 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Regional being hosted by California of PA and played at Washington, PA.
The Yellow Jackets advance to play #1 seeded California of PA on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Cal-Pa for a match Wednesday with conference rival West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Yellow Jacket women lost a 9-0 decision to visiting Cal-Pa Saturday indoors at Teays Valley tennis Center.
The Vulcans are currently ranked #9 nationally in DII and #1 in the NCAA Atlantic Region.

State women get regional tennis rankings
The West Virginia Conference is represented well in the latest women's regional rankings conducted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Four WVC teams are in the Atlantic Region poll, including the University of Charleston at No. 3 and West Virginia State at No. 4.
WVC champion UC also is ranked 38th in the national NCAA Division II rankings.
Other state conference teams ranked in the region are West Virginia Wesleyan, at No. 7, and Shepherd at No. 9.
