Softball Recruit in the News

Frye goes out on high note

BUFFALO - There is not gentle way to describe Marlena Frye's state of mind after her final state tournament game.

"That was devastating,'' said the senior, who saw dreams of a Class A three-peat dashed when she couldn't pitch after running out of innings in the second and deciding title game in which South Harrison defeated Man 8-7 in eight innings.

"When [television] interviewed me earlier I said it'll feel good to come back and redeem myself and I feel like that's exactly what I've done.''

Canadian Magazine Article on Softball's Weinkauf

By Brenda Carson/STRIVE magazine

Jade Weinfauf winds up and, with a grunt, fires the ball across the plate at a blazing 63 miles an hour. In a blink, the ball almost a dozen inches in diameter and weighing 6-7 ounces, burns into the catcher's mitt 46 feet away, dust flying off the leather. Ruby Weinkauf gives her 17 year-old daughter the thumbs up, steps out of a squat and tosses the ball back from the practice pitch.

Not quite out of high school, Jade has signed with West Virginia State University to pitch for Coach Bob Allen and the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets softball team.
