The WVSU tennis teams split matches at Catawba College in North Carolina Saturday.
The men's squad dropped a 9-0 decision while the women won 7-2.

WVSU Men's Tennis Rallies for Win
Trailing 4-2 the Yellow Jacket men's tennis team won three straight three-set matches to defeat visiting Shepherd in a nearly five-hour marathon match Sunday.
The second doubles team of Mason Walling and Brian Wooten accounted for the lone WVSU point in doubles play.
Wooten then picked up a win in singles but Jackets dropped matches attwo other positions.
One-by-one though Walling, then Andrew Barr, and finally Jason Thaxton won singles matches in deciding third sets to give WVSU the conference win.

Men's Tennis Drops Pair
The WVSU men's tennis dropped a 9-0 decision to WVIAC frontrunner West Virginia Wesleyan on the road Saturday and then headed to Elkins where the the Yellow Jackets lost a tough 6-3 contest.
Andrew Barr and Mason Walling picked up singles wins while Walling teamed with Brian Wooten to take a doubles point for the Jackets.

The WVSU men's tennis team fell 7-2 at Fairmont State Friday afternoon.
Andrew Barr and Brian Wooten recorded singles victories to account for the Yellow Jackets' points.

Tennis Teams Have Rough Day
Senior Emily Bowlin won in singles and teamed with junior Meghan Stewart to win a hard fought doubles match but those were the only points the Yellow Jackets' womens tennis team could score Saturday at Division I Winston-Salem.
The men's squad picked up a victory at second doubles from the team of freshman Mason Walling and sophomore Brian Wooten but that was all they could manage aganst the Winston-Salem men.
Later in the day at Winston-Salem the men dropped a 7-0 decision to Division I Richmond.

The WVSU men;s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 7-2 decision to visiting Virginia State Sunday in a match played indoors at Teays Valley Tennis Center.
Nick Anderson and Mason Walling won in singles.
The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team defeated the Trojans 9-0.

The WVSU men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring seasons Sunday.
The Yellow Jacket men dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Bluefield State while the women fell 6-1 to visiting West Virginia University.
Jason Thaxton in singles and Thaxton and Brian Wooten picked up wins for the men while Eben Russell won in singles for the women.

WVSU's tennis teams split a pair of matches with visiting Johnson C. Smith Saturday afternoon in Institute.
The Yellow Jacket men fell 9-0 to the Golden Bulls while the WVSU women returned the favor with a 9-0 win.
The men's squad fell to 0-3 in completing their fall schedule.
The win moved the women's record to 10-2 overall.

Jackets Defeat West Liberty in Women's Tennis
The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team downed visiting West Liberty 7-2 Friday evening in a match played indoors at Teays Valley Tennis Center.
The win moves the Jackets record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the WVIAC.
Both the men's and women's tennis teams will be in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at home in a match being played on campus outdoors as they face Johnson C. Smith.

The Yellow Jacket women's tennis team (6-2) defeated the University of Findlay 8-1 and Indiana Tech 9-0 Saturday in Findlay, Ohio.
The WVSU men fell 9-0 to Indiana Tech in a match also played in Findlay.

Men's Tennis Loses Fall Opener
The young Yellow Jacket men's tennis team fell 9-0 at Tiffin University Friday evening in the team's first match of teh fall.
The Jackets line-up was composed of sophomores Nick Anderon, Andrew Barr, Brian Wooten, and Jason Thaxton along with freshmen Mason Walling and Derrick Thaxton.
The men are scheduled to play Indiana Tech at Findlay University Saturday afternoon.

Men's Tennis Advances, Falls in Quarters
The WVSU men's tennis team rolled over Salem by a 5-0 count in a first round WVIAC tournament match Thursday in Charleston.
The Jackets then faced top-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan at 9 a.m. Friday at Coonskin Park in a quarterfinal match-up.
The WVSU players put up a fight as Gian Sposito was leading WVIAC Player of the Year Rafael Calvacante 6-4 when the Bobcats clinched a 5-0 win.

The Yellow Jacket men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Fairmont State before defeating Salem 8-1 Saturday afternoon.
The WVSU first doubles team of Gian Sposito and Nick Anderson rallied from down 7-4 to tale a 9-7 win and fifth singles player Brian Wooten recovered from a set down for a 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) win to account for the Jackets' points in the opener.

Men's Tennis Loses 7-2 at Shepherd
In a match much closer than the scores indicates the Yellow Jackets fell 7-2 at Shepherd Saturday afternoon in a WVIAC men's tennis match.
WVSU fell behind 3-0 after doubles play when Gian Sposito and Nick Anderson dropped a 9-8 match to the Rams losing in a tie-breaker and the third doubles pair of Jason Thaxton and Brian Wooten lost a tight 806 contest.
Sposito and Wooten rallied to win tight singles matches at the first and sixth spots respectively. Andrew Barr lost a long three-set decision at No. 3 singles and Anderson dropped a very tight two-set match at second singles.
The Jacket men fall to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in WVIAC play.

The Yellow Jackets have signed Sissonville High's top boys tennis player for the coming year.
Brian Wooten was a state tournament qualifier at first singles for the Indians.
"Brian will step right into our line-up and contribute," said WVSU tennis coach John Simms. "We look to sign the top area talent each year and Brian certainly fits that description."

#6 seeded West Virginia State University Men's Tennis team lost to #3 seeded West Liberty State College 5-2 in the WVIAC Quartefinals held at Coonskin Park in Charleston, WV.

Men's Tennis Signs Petersburg Star
The WVSU men's tennis team has signed its first recruit for next season.
Morgan (Moe) Foley from petersburg High selected the Yellow Jackets over several other conference schools it was announced.
Foley was a west Virginia high school state tournament qualifier last season and is the top player currently in his area of the state.
"Moe is a fine young man and excellent tennis player," WVSU tennis Coach John Simms said. "He will not only be a great addition to the team but also to the school in general."

4/14/2008 (PRINCETON, W.Va.)---The pairings have been set for the April 17-19 2008 WVIAC Men's Tennis Championship. All action takes place at the Watt Powell Annex and Coonskin Park courts in Charleston. The victor earns a bid to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional.

Men's Tennis Results
West Virginia State University men lost on Saturday 5-0 to West Virginia Wesleyan College and lost 5-4 to Fairmont State University.
Their Sunday match with Salem International was rained out and will be played on Monday at noon. This match is needed to determine if the Yellow Jackets will finish in 5th, 6th or 7th place this spring.
The Men's Team will host Southern Virginia University on Tuesday, April 15th for Senior day and the WVIAC tournament starts on Thursday, April 17th, 2008.

The Yellow Jacket men's tennis team fell to 2-2 overall with an 8-1 defeat at the hands of host Virginia State Friday afternoon.
