Daily Mail Assistant Sports Editor

INSTITUTE, W.Va. - The West Virginia State University baseball team stumbled near the end of the regular season, but what the Yellow Jackets displayed most this season was consistency.
Veteran Coach Cal Bailey prepares for this week's West Virginia Conference Tournament by trying to get a bead on his team before it faces host Pitt Johnstown (28-16) at noon Thursday at Point Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets have lost six of their last nine games.
"Some teams in the conference have started off slow and done well at the end," said Bailey, who has a 949-434-4 career record in 33 seasons at State. "We were lucky enough to be steady and clinch the Southern championship."

Baseball's Bower in the News
April 30, 2010
State's Bower blends baseball, golf
Charleston Gazette Staff writer
"Waiting" is the operative term here. He plays the game reasonably well and is highly interested in the administration aspect, but he has a little baseball business to finish.
Namely, leading West Virginia State's annual march into the baseball postseason.
Somewhere buried in shortstop Josh Bower's .423 average, 18 stolen bases and a fielding award is a golfer waiting to emerge.
